about hotel sax
Description
Every period produces its greats in art, architecture, and design. Often time selects the best, and their products become classics. The interiors of the vintage design hotel SAX will transport you to the 1950s, 60s, or 70s, which typically enjoyed freedom of design and especially the use of materials which the technological progress of the time allowed - plastics and leatherette. Throughout most of the hotel, originals are used that represent the period's cutting edge in global design (Pantone, Colani, Saarinen, Eames, etc.). This isn't just a current trend, but it is evidence of the quality of a design which has endured.
History
The vintage design hotel SAX has retained its classicist appearance. Yet the building is originally medieval and dates from the 14th century. At that time it was owned by a blacksmith named Sax, after whom the hotel was named. In the past, the building also served as an orphanage (16th century) and a hospital for the poor (18th century). It then served as an apartment block, from the 19th century until 1994, when it was converted into a hotel. The interiors are now fitted out with retro furnishings from the 1950s, 60s and 70s, and the designs come from the studio of the architects Nadi Sádovská and Jaromír Pitzinger.

Hotel design

This isn't just a current trend, but it is evidence of the quality of a design which has endured. In order to maintain the functionality of the hotel, certain individual items designed by the hotel architects Pizinger and Sádovská, are manufactured in the retro style. Many of the chairs, sofas, light fittings, graphic works, and pictures are originals of the period, some have been refurbished, and some are in their original state. But in their time they were exclusive, and only available to the wealthier clientele. We have attempted to transport you to an environment which contrasts greatly with the Lesser Town and the exterior design of the hotel SAX.
